Homework
Introduction:
At Hedingham School we endeavour to provide a safe, supportive environment where children can learn, grow and succeed. Our aim is that all children achieve their true potential. Although mindful of the pressures of a school day, homework is set to complement work done in classrooms and consolidate classroom learning.
Aims:
Through our homework we aim to:
- Raise attainment and accelerate progress through consolidating and reinforcing knowledge and skills acquired in School
- To encourage self-discipline and self-motivation
- Develop and apply a wide range of key skills which will enable children to grow into resilient, independent and positive citizens
- Develop independent learning skills that enable children to learn efficiently and make sustained progress
- To facilitate and encourage parent involvement
- Sharpen student enthusiasm towards learning and encourage student curiosity within a rich and balanced curriculum
KS3 Homework Structure
The homework structure includes a three-strand approach in KS3:
- Weekly – set once per week
- Topic – set twice per topic
- Project - one topic set per half-term
The three-strand approach allows subject areas to set meaningful and quality homework designed around the subject’s curriculum. Subject teachers may also choose to set some extra homework, for example, some reading or research surrounding a topic area, or revision for assessments at home.
How is homework recorded?
Teachers will set all homework through the online platform, Arbor. This will appear on both the student and parent home page under assignments. This will include the title of the homework, marking method and due date. Teachers may also decide to include additional instructions or resources.
Teachers will also set and discuss homework in class with students, to provide further detail of instruction. Students are expected to record all homework in their planners.
