Armistice Day 2025
12 Nov 2025
The Poppy was chosen because it was one of the only flowers to grow in Flanders Fields during the war, this was epitomised in the war poem ''In Flanders Fields'' by John McCrae.
Initially the Poppy became the symbol of remembrance in America, but became the symbol of remembrance in 1921 in the UK. This was promoted by a French women named Anna Guerin, who joined forces with Earl Haig and first sold poppies in London on Nov 11th 1921, they sold out and raised £106,000 for veterans.
Hedingham School students have commemorated Armistice Day by holding a two minute silence on Tuesday 11 November at 11am.
Some of our students have marked the significance of the day by asking to attend school in their cadet uniforms.
