Thirteen- year old Evie Stokes-Shinn has just won the title of British Schools under-14 Elite Champion 2017 in trampolining. This followed 2 zonal rounds which Evie sailed through and then the tough final competition, held in Gateshead, where Evie competed against 26 other national finalists and won! The Year 9 Hedingham School student has been involved in trampolining from an early age but last year was involved in a very bad road traffic accident. This left Evie with a broken leg and she was then in plaster for several months after an operation to insert a metal plate and 6 screws in her lower left leg. This obviously set back her training considerably but despite this she was still determined to compete again as soon as possible. Evie comments, ‘Even when I was lying in my hospital bed I was determined to get back to top fitness as soon as possible!’ She started conditioning exercises when she still had her plaster cast on and then built up her strength with physio exercises.
Evie will be competing in the British Individual Spring series at the end of April and then again in June. If she does well in these competitions, she hopes she will be selected for the GB squad. With her natural skill, willingness to train hard and great determination we have no doubt that Evie will succeed!
